It is 2,000 years old and was the sports stadium for the Roman Empire where cruel fights and games were being played. This majestic structure was initiated under the Emperor Vespasianrome and completed under Emperor Titus. Although it is now in a ruined condition due to damage caused by earthquakes and stone-robbers, the Colosseum still bears a close connection to the Roman Catholic Church. Its significance can also be deciphered from the fact that it is depicted in the Italian version of the 5 cent euro coin.
